Say I Do

Today, the cast of Export Quality (or E-quality for short) watched "Say I Do" which is a documentary about mail-order brides. Stepping aside from the real issues of that film for a moment, I think about making documentaries. That would be interesting to say the least. I was actually thinking about taking this:

Film-Video Images of Communities of Color: Analysis and Video Production -- Ethnic Studies (ETH STD) 128 [3 units]

Course Format: Three hours of lecture per week.

Prerequisites: Must be taken in conjunction with a 3-unit 190 video production seminar; consent of instructor.

Formerly 123

Description: Films analyzed for understanding range of alternatives in filmic concepts of history, culture, class, and personal identity. Selected films show producers' points of view and social-critical stances. Production training for making video projects are conceived/shot/edited within teams.

Hmm. Me the documentary film maker. It's six units if you read the fine print. Whoa. But it looks really interesting. Add that to the other things I've dabbled in- poetry, playwright, and photographer. You know what I just noticed- they all start with "p"- instead of documentarian I could be a: pianist, polo player, postal service worker, ping pong player. Heh.

Going back to the original topic-I will probably wait for another post to think more on this. There's still I have a lot to process. Especially since I feel I've just skimmed the tip of the iceberg. On a sidenote though, if you type in "mail order bride filipina" 466,000 sites come up.

I have decided to do one of my papers due for two separate classes about mail order brides. I think this would be something I would like to do more research on in the future.
